Theatreship presents Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell + Pressburger, part of a BFI major UK-wide celebration of one of the greatest and most enduring filmmaking partnerships: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.    Over six events, we celebrate their bold, subversive and iconoclastic films, pairing each with contemporary and complementary performance.

The Red Shoes

Directors:  Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger

Cast: Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, Robert Helpmann

UK 1948. 135min

Rating: PG

When she is cast as the prima ballerina in a new work entitled ‘The Red Shoes’, eager young dancer Victoria Page is driven to breaking point and beyond by the charismatic but obsessive impresario Boris Lermontov.

This film is particularly noteworthy for its extended, artistically innovative, semi-hallucinatory dance sequence.

Theatreship is presenting The Red Shoes alongside a dance performance by film and West End dancer Pàje Campbell, performing an original piece created in response to the film.

Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If the regular ticket price is beyond what you feel able to afford, please don't hesitate to email us at tickets@theatreship.co.uk and we will do everything we can to support and accommodate.  Please also contact us for access information or anything else you'd like to discuss.

If you are intending to buy a ticket, BFI has a short survey they would like attendees to fill in.  It's optional and anonymous but will help Theatreship receive funding in the future: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/LON202324/?P=LON28
