Event Details
Jackie Chan and Sammo Kam-Bo Hung, two titanic figures in martial arts cinema, teamed up to create "Project A.". Chan is celebrated for his unparalleled blend of action and comedy, while Hung is renowned for his mastery of martial arts choreography. Together they made an instant classic, featuring increadible stunts (look out for echoes of Buster Keaton in some of the scenes), masterful choreography, and a lot of laughs.
Starring, written, and directed by Chan, it's an iconic example of Hong Kong Cinema, and one of the films that cemented Chan's reputation domestically.
The film is a real antidote to contemporary Hollywood fight-scene choreography, and Chan's trademark use of wide shots, and infrequent cuts, allow his mastery of both the camera and martial arts to really shine.
...and at Theatreship we love any film that features pirates.
After the screening there'll be a live martial arts demo by Jai Chan - who has an impressive 25 years of martial arts experience. She has competed extensively in MMA, Kickboxing, Jiujitsu, and Judo, earning numerous first-place accolades. Sifu Jai is a passionate Chinese Kung Fu enthusiast who took up Wing Chun in her adult life, learning under the guidance of a prominent Wing Chun Sifu and the martial art choreographer behind the Ip Man movies.
